Vic; Virgin weighs local concerns on Essendon airport
MELBOURNE, Jan 12 AAP - Virgin Airlines said today it was aware of local concerns over
noise pollution if it was forced to use Melbourne's Essendon airport.
Virgin has established a contingency plan to fly its 737 jets into Essendon until a
new "passenger-friendly terminal" could be built at nearby Tullamarine airport within
the next two years.
But the Victorian government said today it opposed the use of Essendon by Virgin on
the grounds of increased noise pollution and safety concerns.
