Vic: Name change for Melb's Spencer Street Station

Melbourne's Spencer Street station has been renamed Southern Cross station.

The station's been Melbourne's main transit point for generations of country and interstate
travellers.

And Victorian premier STEVE BRACKS says a 700-million dollar redevelopment will make
it one of the top 10 railway stations in the world .. and a must-see icon in Melbourne.





The refit features an innovative wave-shaped roof covering the platforms and concourse.

The station's entrance will feature a 12-tonne steel and glass door.

Mr BRACKS says the project .. which has been dogged by delays .. will be completed
before the Commonwealth Games in March.
