Ath: Thompson misses qualification for long jump final

Australia's BRONWYN THOMPSON has failed to qualify for the Olympic final of the women's
long jump after placing 17th in the heats at the National Stadium.

The triple Olympian jumped 6.53 metres on her second attempt but it was still seven
centimetres shy of the top 12 cut off for Friday's final.

THOMPSON, the final jumper in the field, required a leap of 6.60m to make the cut but fouled.

American BRITTNEY REESE led the field with her leap of 6.87m making her just one of
three jumpers to exceed the 6.75m automatic qualification length for for the final.
